　これまで日本法に関する英語の書籍は乏しく、特に日本人の研究者が執筆に関与したものはごくわずかしか存在しなかった。日本の大学で教鞭をとる研究者たちが協同して、日本の社会や法制度について初学者にも分かりやすく解説した英語テキストを刊行。
　留学生のほか、日本とのビジネスに携わるビジネスパーソンも必携の一冊。

　　English-language books on Japanese law have long been limited, and only a handful have involved Japanese scholars as contributors. This new volume, written collaboratively by leading researchers teaching at universities in Japan, offers an accessible introduction to Japan’s legal system and society from a socio-legal perspective.

　北京大学と早稲田大学の研究者・大学院生による共同ワークショップ（2024–2025年度）の成果をまとめた論文集。アジアの知的伝統・政策環境・文化表現を通じて、変容するグローバル・ガバナンスを多角的に考察する。
　政治経済学、国際制度論、国際法、文学研究、建築史など、学際的視点を横断する構成が特徴である。
　第1章は、アジアにおける国際制度とグローバル・ガバナンスを扱い、気候変動と司法制度、日本のポピュリズムと日中関係、ESGや経済ガバナンス改革などを論じる。
　第2章は、グローバル政治経済の再編をテーマに、日本企業のグローバル化、中国の対欧州戦略、国家能力、国際自動車貿易、法改革、食の安全保障、米中技術デカップリングなどを分析する。
　第3章は、国際法に焦点を当て、人道に対する罪の個人責任、国際司法裁判所の再発防止保証、国家責任と個人刑事責任の補完関係を検討する。
　第4章は、日本文学を中心に、岡倉覚三、島田雅彦、赤沼三郎、源実朝、宇佐見りんなどの作品を通じて「他者」や想像力の問題を論じる。
　第5章は、日中の伝統建築研究を取り上げ、寺院、絵画、石碑、祖廟平面図などを通じて建築と社会的意味の関係を探究する。

This volume presents selected papers from the 2024–2025 joint workshop of Peking University and Waseda University. It explores the transformation of global governance from Asian perspectives through an interdisciplinary approach spanning political economy, international law, literary studies, and architectural history.
　　The chapters address governance and economic change in Asia, key issues in international law, representations of “the Other” in Japanese literature, and the social meanings embedded in traditional architecture in Japan and China. Together, these studies highlight the value of cross-cultural dialogue and collaborative scholarship in understanding contemporary global challenges and fostering sustained academic exchange between China and Japan.

　2023年12月に発売し大好評を博した『勇気と覚悟――視覚障害学生の実験教育における技術支援』の英語版。
　2019年4月、早稲田大学 先進理工学部に一人の全盲の学生が入学した。小学2年生の時に全盲となった彼女は、筑波大学附属視覚特別支援学校中学部、都立高校を経て、早稲田大学を受験。みごと現役合格を果たしたのである。
　はたしてどのようにすれば、全盲の学生に大学の実験科目を履修してもらうことが可能なのか。この課題に中心となって対応したのが、早稲田大学 理工学術院統合事務・技術センターの技術職員たちであった。つねに彼女に寄り添いながら、学内外のステークホルダーたちを巻き込みつつ、高等教育機関として実験科目を通じて彼女に何を伝えるべきか、という根本的な問題意識の下に奔走した彼ら。その現場からの報告。

　早稲田大学・北京大学の教員・大学院生らによる共同研究交流会の成果論文集の2024年度版。東アジア・東南アジアの国際関係論に関する英語論文13本、漢字・漢語研究に関する日本語論文5本を掲載する。

　分析哲学では外在主義がほぼ定説となっている一方、チョムスキー以降の言語学では内在主義が当然視されている。両主義の間には明白な対立があるにもかかわらず、哲学者が現代言語学の研究に言及することはほとんどなく、逆に言語学者が外在主義に言及することもほとんどない。
　外在主義が「言語表現は外的環境の事物を指示し、文は真理値をもつ」ことを前提とするのに対し、チョムスキーは「意味の理論にとって指示や真理の概念は無用である」との立場をとってきた。しかしながら認知言語学はチョムスキー派言語学と異なり、言語使用者と外的環境の相互作用が意味と概念の成立基盤をなすと考える理論であり、外在主義と無関係ではありえない。
　外在主義の想定と認知言語学の想定の両立可能性を仔細に検討し、哲学と言語学の架橋を図った画期的研究。※全編英語

Externalism is the philosophical thesis that meaning and mental content are partly dependent for their individuation on one’s social or physical environment. If externalism is true, then two speakers who are molecule-for-molecule identical may nevertheless have different thoughts and mean different things by employing exactly the same word forms. Externalism and its implications have not received sufficient attention in the linguistics literature.
　The goal of this book is to investigate the relationships between externalism and cognitive linguistics. Human cognition is biased toward both the internalist conception of linguistic meaning and the externalist conception of natural kinds. Neither bias is rooted in reality. Social externalism coheres with cognitive linguistics. Physical externalism, by contrast, is incompatible not only with cognitive linguistics, but also with biology, chemistry and the philosophy of science. Nevertheless, the physical externalist intuition can be accommodated by the cognitive linguistic apparatus.

　日本において立憲主義が成立した由来およびその後の発展の経緯について、憲法典の内容、判例・実務を含む法制度及び学説の変遷をたどりながら明らかにする。
　著者が、海外の学術書、学術雑誌に発表してきた論文をもとに、全編英語でまとめる。長谷部憲法学の集大成がここにある。

The established theory argues that pre-war Japan’s perspective of Southeast Asia was mainly concerned with its natural resources. However, this book on ethnologist Matsumoto Nobuhiro shows that scientific study of Southeast Asian culture had already existed in this time. It traces the formation and development of Matsumoto’s ideas on Southeast Asia based on his writings in the period 1919-1945. Matsumoto started studying this region from evolutionist ethnology and decided to focus on it under the influence of diffusionist ethnology, because he believed in significance of Japan's relation with Southeast Asia in ancient times. In the 1930s and 1940s, he established Southeast Asian studies and Vietnamese studies by bringing research materials from French Indochina to Japan, introducing them to the Japanese people and founding research institutes at Keio University. He acquired various theories from Western and Japanese scholars and somewhat adjusted his arguments to the political climate of the era. This book examines evolutionist, sociologist and diffusionist ethnology, Southern Culture Theory, Southward Theory, Climate Theory, Orientalism, Southern Advance Theory, and Pan-Asianism in his works. It reveals that Matsumoto’s perspective of Southeast Asian culture was a patchwork of arguments from many theories. In this pattern, he offered multiple views on this culture, which instigated further development of Southeast Asian studies in diverse fields, but his conclusion on Japan-Southeast Asian relations remained ambiguous.
